Getting Started with Liquid Media (Introductory tutorial)

The create presentation menu is shown when Liquid Media loads (Pictured below)

1) Start by creating a Blank Presentation. Make sure the "Blank Presentation" option has a tick next to it and then click ok to proceed.

2) Now you are ready to start creating your presentation in Liquid Media. The actor and properties toolbars (explained below) are the primary controls in the Liquid Media interface.

Actors Toolbar
The Actor toolbar will add new actors to the currently active scene. The Actor Toolbar is only viewable while editing a scene. Please click on the actor images to see the related topic.

Properties Toolbar
The Actor Properties toolbar will configure the selected actor's properties. The Actor Properties Toolbar is only viewable while editing a scene. Click on the property images to see the related topic.

3) Lets start by inserting an image actor by left clicking on the image icon (left hand side of screen, near the top), open the "Docs" directory and select the "Liquid Title 1.jpg" image file. The graphic will appear on the screen. Note the eight red resizing tabs around its edges.

Note also, that a small red "bullseye" appears in the middle of the image, positioned inside a green square:

The red "dot" is the end-of-path hot-point... It indicates where a "Path" actually stops. (You might like to think of it as a red traffic light!)
"Hiding" beneath the red hot-point is a green one:

Strangely enough, this is used to indicate from where a Path starts. (Green for Go, Red for Stop!)

4) Position the cursor directly over the red hot-point. Hold down the left mouse button and drag the mouse towards you. This will have the effect of dragging the image down the screen. Note that what you are dragging is the red (end-of-path) hot-point, along with the green surrounding square:

Check your progress thus-far by clicking on the Preview icon (or). (or "play-->preview" from the main menu). You should see the title graphic moving along its path from the starting point to the finishing point.

5) Notice the four little square boxes attached to the top left-hand corner of the graphic. Simply positioning the cursor over the first (without clicking a mouse button) will show you the purpose of that box (Align Object). Doing the same over the second box tells you that that's the Size Object box.

(The other two boxes are "Lock Actor at Front for Editing" and "Clear Embellishments for Editing" respectively... but more about those later.)
Select the Size Object box by left-clicking the mouse button on it and then select Halve from the options. The whole graphic will reduce in size, uniformly, to exactly half of its original size. Clever, huh?

6) Return to the end (red) hot-point and enlarge the graphic at the end position using the same technique but selecting Double instead.

Now when you hit the Preview arrow (or "play-->preview" from the main menu), you should see the logo growing as it travels diagonally across the screen from lower right to upper left.
That concludes the first Tutorial... You've only seen the tip of the iceberg, but you've probably already got a few good ideas on how to put together an exciting presentation of your own... so GO FOR IT... Experiment for a while, and when you feel ready to proceed to the next level, come back here for some more fun!
